Grassroots Coalition Demands Policy Action

5/26/2017

More than 50 leaders of Texas' grassroots conservative movement have signed a letter (see below) calling on Gov. Greg Abbott and the legislature to deliver on substantive policy reforms before the session concludes on Monday.

The letter covers a range of issues, including property tax reform, ethics priorities, privacy legislation, pro-life measures, and ballot security.

While overall spending in the state's 2018-2019 biennial budget comes in under the "population-plus-inflation" metric favored by conservatives, the letter expresses concern with the last-minute nature of the conference committee report.

Of greater concern to the letter signers is a lack of progress on key policy issues.

For two sessions running, Gov. Abbott has made ethics reform an emergency item but has met resistance in the Texas House. Similarly, a comprehensive property tax reform measure passed the Senate but was waylaid in the House.

The letter's signers also note that "not one substantial election integrity or ballot security bill has passed this session."

"If meaningful action is not taken before Sine Die, we call on Gov. Abbott to respect the people of Texas, make good on his priorities, and make plans to call a special session of the Texas Legislature to complete this important unfinished business for the people. Anything less is unacceptable," concludes the letter.

SB 6 - the Texas Privacy Act

What is SB 6?  A bill that addresses the danger of exposing women and young girls in showers, restrooms, and locker rooms in places such as public schools and universities to men who claim a self-defined definition of gender. The bill does not force a state policy on private businesses, but prohibits local governments from passing ordinances forcing private businesses to adopt a transgender bathroom/shower/locker room policy that would affect restrooms and private gyms, etc. For a fact sheet about SB 6, click here.  For refutation of TAB's prediction of economic collapse if biological men are confined to male restrooms/showers/locker rooms, click here.

Paul Workman Has FAILED Texas

Picture
Rep. Paul Workman has failed Texas and sports an F grade from conservative grassroots groups throughout Texas. Conservative, liberty loving groups like Empower Texans, Eagle Forum, New Revolution Now, the Austin Tea Party, Young Conservatives, Texas Turf and Concerned Women of America. Workman even donated to Democrat candidates running against Republicans.

Workman has worked hard to obstruct and defeat the conservative agenda in Austin by working against school choice, pro-life, elimination of property taxes, American Laws for American Courts and the banning of sanctuary cities. He even authored legislation legalizing illegal aliens and giving them drivers licenses.

The right choice for Texas and Texas HD-47 is Jay Wiley for Texas State Rep. District 47.

Resolution to Support Freedom of School Choice

WHEREAS teachers now earn less than they could due to the monopsony power districts have over the labor force. Additional competition for teachers’ services will positively impact teacher pay;

WHEREAS studies indicate that where school choice has been implemented public schools have improved. Additionally, school choice will offset public schools’ enrollment growth;

WHEREAS the purpose of the education clause in the Texas Constitution is the preservation of the liberties and rights of the people;

WHEREAS school choice has the potential to save taxpayers billions while at the same time providing superior educational opportunities to Texas students;

WHEREAS at present, Texas has very few policies that encourage competition and efficiency in its public schools;

WHEREAS with passage of either the Taxpayer Savings Grant or Taxpayer Savings Credit the financial effect on a public school will be exactly the same as if a student moves out of the district;

RESOLVED that every Texas child can choose schools that best meet that individual child’s needs;

RESOLVED that parental freedom and educational opportunity for all Texas students is maximized;

RESOLVED that the Taxpayer Savings Grant Program is enacted;

RESOLVED that the Taxpayer Savings Credit Program is enacted;
